There is a beautiful Tibetan mantra that has been appearing in my life lately:
Om Mani Padme Hum
It is often translated as:
“The jewel is within the lotus.”
The lotus is a powerful symbol because it does not grow in pristine conditions. It rises from mud. Its roots are planted in darkness, yet it emerges through the water and blossoms into extraordinary beauty.
The lotus does not become beautiful despite the mud.
It becomes beautiful because of it.
As I reflected on this mantra, I realized how closely it mirrors the journey of reinvention, healing, and personal transformation.
So many of us spend years believing that our challenges disqualify us from living fully. We think we need to heal completely before we can serve. We think we need more confidence before we can begin. We think we need to fix every flaw before we can share our gifts.
But what if the very experiences we wish had never happened are the soil from which our deepest wisdom grows?
The truth is that life leaves marks on all of us.
Loss.
Disappointment.
Heartbreak.
Failure.
Trauma.
Unexpected detours.
Yet these experiences often become our greatest teachers.
In my work as a Reinvention Life Coach, I have witnessed this repeatedly. The people who inspire me most are not those who have lived perfect lives. They are the people who have walked through difficulty and emerged with greater compassion, wisdom, humility, and resilience.
As my teacher Nancy Levin often says:
“Coach from the scar, not the wound.”
A scar tells a story of healing.
A scar reminds us that we survived.
A scar becomes evidence of transformation.
The jewel within the lotus is not something we find outside ourselves. It is the wisdom that emerges when we stop resisting our life and begin honoring it.
Perhaps your reinvention is not about becoming someone new.
Perhaps it is about uncovering who you have always been.
Perhaps the jewel has been there all along.
Waiting patiently beneath the surface.
Waiting for you to recognize it.
Today, I invite you to pause and reflect:
What wisdom has emerged from your own mud?
What gift has grown from a challenge you once wished away?
What jewel is waiting to be discovered within your lotus?
You may be closer than you think.
