The Power of Contrast: Soul Lessons from Breathwork & Axe Throwin

Yesterday held a truth I keep needing to relearn:

Life isn’t one thing.
Life is the integration of everything.

In the afternoon, I spent two hours in a Soul Mission Masterclass with Christopher August — deep breathwork, expanded consciousness, sitting eye-to-eye with purpose. The kind of work that cracks you open and reminds you who you really are.

Stillness.
Presence.
Sacred seriousness.

And then…
One hour later I was hurling axes at a wooden target with ministers and board members from both Unitarian churches — laughing, cheering, letting the sharp edges fly.

Play.
Community.
Permission to let go.

Two very different experiences.
One essential message:

Being fully alive requires both expansion and grounding.
The right brain and the left.
Discipline and spontaneity.
Growth and joy.

If I cling too tightly to the “serious” parts of my spiritual growth, I forget why I’m growing in the first place.
If I hide in play or comfort, I never stretch into my next evolution.

Balance isn’t always about calm.
Sometimes balance looks like breathwork… and throwing axes.

It looks like community that holds you…
and moments that shake you up.

It’s the courage to open,
to release judgment,
to let go of attachment to how things “should” look.

So here’s my gratitude today:

  • For the inner work that changes me
  • And the outer experiences that remind me not to take myself so damn seriously
  • For the communities that help me loosen the grip
  • And the moments that reinforce who I’m becoming

Open to everything.
Attached to nothing.
Grounded in gratitude for it all.

Here’s to living the paradox —
where growth and play coexist
and our souls get to breathe.
